Battery Chainsaws

Lowes brand 40v 10” pole saw was an eye opener. The chain that came with it was inoperable, but once I replaced that, it proved to be a cutting king. Cutting major branches from the ground was much better than climbing a tree or a ladder, and then limbing the downed branches was zip zip fast.

The battery lasted about as long as I needed until I needed to go back inside to cool off (100° day chosen to cut the ash tree down). The charge back to full lasted less than my rest/lunch break.

I have Ryobi 18v tools…and as a result have both the 8” pole saw and the 10” chain saw. They punch far, far about their weight.

The 10” rides in the Truck during hunting season. It does amazing work.

I’d love to get a proper 20” or 24” battery saw…but I just don’t need something that big.

Anyway, biggest advice I can give: get a good chain sharpener and keep those chains sharp!

I have an E-go with an 18 inch bar. Uses the same battery as a trimmer I already have. I have nothing but good to say about it. Had to clear two green spruce that fell down over a road and it did the job. The trunk was 20 inches diameter. Easy to use and no gas cans in the truck. If i were logging or filling trucks full of firewood, I would use hte gas saw, but for a truck saw, battery has a lot going for it.

I say go with whatever brand you already have batteries for. If you have Dewalt go with that if you have Milwaukee then there's your ticket.

If you don't already have a group of battery tools then all honesty I feel like most of the brands are comparable to each other for what you're wanting with maybe Milwaukee and stihl being the top of line.
I have a 18" kobalt 80v and it works great, however they don't make it anymore and probably a bit big for what you're wanting.

A friend that sells firewood bought one for when the woods are closed to gas powered tools. With a couple batteries he could get a load by cutting truck bed length smaller diameter logs then bucking them up later at home. Kept him going until they opened up the woods again.
