RIP Charlie Kirk

Nope - Kirk making those offensive statements doesn't justify the killing, but the killing doesn't justify those who praise for him for being a good human being either.

I was aware of him, but didn't know much about him before this.

Now I've went and watched a couple dozen videos of him doing his thing on different campuses. Didn't see anything offensive, hateful, or mean.

quite the opposite.

Reminds me of Uncle Tom, from Uncle Tom's Cabin. The ignorant use Uncle Tom as an insult. Anyone thats actually read the book realizes Uncle Tom was on one of the most saintly characters in history.

I challenge you to go watch an hour or two of his appearances. Then come back and tell us if you still think he's offensive, or a bad human.

Be honest with yourself.

That really wasn’t the intent of my sharing or how I took the article, more so it’s just eye-opening that there are corners of the internet that even the more internet-savvy among us (by which I generally mean, no offense, the youngest) have never heard of. And there seems to be a pretty common theme that many school shooters, Trump’s first assassination attempt, and this guy are very at home in those dark corners of the internet. If we don’t make any attempt to even learn what’s out there, we’ll never understand some of the factors that lead to this and how we could stop them.
Sorry if it appeared so, but my observation had nothing to do with your intent. Just a fact.

Taking things out of context to justify preconceived ideas isn't a new thing, but it does seem to be the primary weapon of the left when it comes to Kirk. Much like what Stephen King did a few days ago. Take something out of context and try to make it into something you know is not true to affect the minds of the gullible or ignorant.

People have been doing that for thousands of years with religion. Take one verse out of context to justify evil deeds.

I’ll be honest..I’m generally turned off, or at least made very uncomfortable when Christianity enters the conversation because today it seems that it has become a blunt weapon to justify poor behavior, cruelty, and forced compliance to a belief system.

Then I read something like this. You give me hope Mr. Martin.
As a Christian, I don’t disagree with you.

Im glad I'm not the only one.
Not to put words in your mouth but I am willing to go a little further.
I have started to feel that claiming to be a Christian is being used like a sheild.
Some high profile individuals and politicians are hiding behind it with no accountability for their very un Christian actions.
Its harder to pick a leader based on their character and actions and not their claimed beliefs.
This feeling isn't aimed at Charlie in any way as I know very little about him.

True Americans? I've come to hate this cliche. I guess by teue, you just mean those like you and in agreement with you.

I guess, in reality, being born in the USA makes you a true American.
If being a “true American” means agreeing with the sentiment, then count me out.

I’m fine with being just a plain old born and bred American.

When you use terms like "true American " to disconnect from and dehumanize a group of people it's easier to treat them poorly.

I’ll be honest. I’m generally turned off as well. If I could maintain my faith and divorce myself from the negative behavior of Christians I would in a heartbeat. The big problem with that is I am one and some of that negative behavior is mine.
I’ve contemplated the consequences of abandonment of my faith and imperfect obedience to what acceptance of Christ’s teachings and examples require from someone who is a believer. I’ve come to at least a couple conclusions.

1. I don’t know that I could and make sense of existence and the meaning of life apart from that faith.

2. I would be a far worse person than I am apart from it. My understanding of what faith and obedience requires inspires the best of who I am and checks the worst of who I could be. I’m not all that great but believe me I could be a lot worse.
I share a lot of this sentiment. Getting to the point with my kids starting Sunday School and more in depth learning about our faith. Its a lot to wrestle with.

I’m hoping there’s a more charitable interpretation such as those who aren’t filled with glee at watching a fellow citizen’s murder.
