Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

Kid 1: My dad is so fast. He is a pilot and he gets off work at 5:00 and is home by 5:30.
Kid 2: My dad is a race car driver. He is so fast he gets off work at 5:00 and gets home by 5:15!
Kid 3: Well, my dad works for the government. He is so fast he gets off work at 5:00 but he is home by 3:30!

I just got back from being in DC last week, mostly for tourist stuff. I have very bad news for anyone that thinks that Washington is more efficient today. From a public-facing standpoint, it looks very much the same as it has for decades - people standing (or mostly sitting) around doing nothing and get annoyed if you ask a question and super annoyed if they have to get out of the chair. The National Guard was just added to the list. They too are mostly standing around doing nothing, checking the clock to make sure they get their breaks to go into the buildings with AC when it is hot. Occasionally they go for a walk. It is clearly the most expensive political flex ever. Good to see them picking up garbage and doing some landscaping.
Like always, it seems about one in four public buildings is undergoing some type of remodel-SCOTUS, WhiteHouse ballrooms, Lincoln Mem, various Smithsonian museums. Like I said, same ole, same ole. It is easy to spend other people's money. DC is a great place and everyone should go, if only for the lesson in government, but no one is going to walk away and think it is efficient.

So basically a bunch of people standing and sitting around not doing dick. A more elegant way of telling the joke. Well done 👏

I missed the joke so can't opine, but I assume it was no different than the dozens of other unfunny jokes on HT. You have a pretty good summary that applies to a lot of things. No different than most road construction, building construction, Walmart employees, Etc, etc. Congress wasn't in session and the tourist season is winding down as schools start, so "not doing dick" is at its max. My freshman Rep has at least 4 employees. Trying to look busy is an art for them.

I tried to image if it was busy season, but there were instances of efficiency making things less efficient, like buying tickets online (you don't even "buy" the tickets, they are free) to museums. Great idea to control flow if it is busy, but if you show up at 12:45, you have to know to buy the 12oclock ticket and not the 1 oclock ticket or the ticket won't scan because it isn't 1oclock. So then you log back in and get another ticket. You end up with a dozen people standing outside the entrance all doing the same thing. Also, for anyone who has gone into Congress you will know that there is one elevator to the viewing level of both the Senate (to the right) and House (to the left). Each side has its gear check (bags, phones) at the bottom and its own security screening team at the top. Why security isn't placed at a point before you get on the elevator is mind boggling. And the woman sitting in the chair at the elevator to direct you to the correct chamber is useless.

Wisdom passed down from someone much smarter than me:

If you have to tell everyone your “jokes” are jokes, and you need to repeatedly tell people how funny they are, they probably aren’t really jokes, and you probably aren’t really funny.

I'm still striving to get above 50% joke recognition on HT.

The thing is, offensive or not, the joke was objectively not funny. An unoriginal and overused theme; boring, or maybe kinda lame, in a word.

Unless you’re perhaps a sexually frustrated prepubescent 8th grade boy.

Very good. You stated your opinion and added some humor at the end. Different strokes for different folks.
Im pretty confident that the lameness of the joke in your opinion didnt offend or bore you to the point of reporting it cause that would be silly like what a 6 year old does when they go and tattle.

I’m learning they actually start tattling closer to 3.

And they’re tattling on me, of all people 🙄

Yes I've learned quickly only dad and grandpa get tattled on. Last week drove a half a block to pickup some drywall from a neighbor. Get home first thing out of his mouth "Dad didnt buckle my car seat mom"
