Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

It sucks that Govt. workers are facing layoffs, when i was young, I faced it all the time, cant imagine what i would do at my age now.....that said, something has to be done about the spending & debt or else the house of cards will collapse & it will make the 29' depression look like a cake walk.
This is what happens when the people start believing that Big Govt exists to take care of the people instead of people taking care of themselves.

If Trump/R's had any intention of actually cutting the deficit, your assertion would have some merit but they don't. They're canning employees to fund a tax cut and that's it, the deficit will continue climbing and you won't hear a peep from them until there's another democrat in the White House. Don't take my word for it, just look at the R's budget proposal.

They gotta start somewhere.....
What is the alternative?
Shall we just keep digging a deeper hole till we break thru to china?

That said, the administration could take a "kinder/gentler" approach when it comes to letting people go.

Maybe the "somewhere" to start should actually be somewhere with enough cost to actually make a difference. If they fired literally every federal worker, there would still be an annual deficit of $1.5 Trillion. Take that in for a second. Maybe start with bloated contracts instead of the people who administer the contracts and make sure they aren't taking advantage of the client (us).

And the tax cut they have planned will greatly INCREASE the national debt. Far more than the tiny amount saved so far...some of which will cost us in the end too.

Now you stop it, that kind of raw truth is going to get this thread locked!

When you look at one of them federal budget pie chart thingies, you realize that there is no one place to make pain free cuts that everyone will agree on. Can you give me an example of a bloated contract?

Just curious - but have you looked at the balance sheet? It isnt gov employment thats killing us.

Frankly - its long history, of especially boomers, not stomaching an ounce of changes to medicare and SS. Not much besides that or mil spending will move the needle.

20 years ago boomers were telling me we shouldnt get something for free from gov, and to not believe everything we read on the internet. And here we are.

No ill effects over here. Gas is $2.64/gallon, freezer still has plenty of meat in it, and the fish are always biting!

I'm not a miracle-worker. I can't make the willingly blind see, so I don't really have any hope for convincing you of anything, but for anybody that is actually willing to consider evidence:

Yeah +1

air force one contract, F-35 program, DOD IT spending, DOD starlink, etc etc etc. they aren’t looking very hard if they can’t find a bloated contract.
