Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

But it shows how uninformed people are about the status of certain game populations.

Go on any Montana based Facebook page right now. “FWP NEEDS TO EXTEND THE ELK SEASON. I HUNTED FOR 3 MONTHS AND STILL COULDNT FIND AN ELK TO SHOOT!!” That’s the common theme on them right now.

Or “WHY CANT I TAKE MY MUZZLELOADER INTO PISTOL AND SHOTGUN ONLY AREAS. I HAVE A TAG THAT NEEDS FILLED OUR MUZZLELOADER SEASON ISNT LONG ENOUGH”

And that’s the reason this reduction will have little impact. Take the NR tags to zero…still gonna be a shit show. I’m glad it happened though. Once the evil NR is taken out of the equation and there’s no other scapegoat, FWP might be forced into doing something meaningful that actually works.

Look at any fb hunting pages comments on things like this, it'll make the dumbest MF'ers on hunttalk look like a rocket scientist. It really explains a lot in the world when you realize how uninformed some people are. Which im sure most of us are in some topic or another. But my god its emberrasing.

I agree. But.
Bumped in to a guy that was setting up a camp to hunt md does. Just got off the river from fishing. I gave him an explanation why I oppose killing them.
But then he confessed being 75 years old and how he was happy to hunt them. I felt bad I judged him. If the tags are available for purchase is it the hunters fault?
No. A hunter can do whatever they want. I do. mtmuley

There are less residents hunting mule deer in R 7 now then there was in 2004.

So yeah - im inclined to think its a NR problem, given that they have trended more and more of a majority of the MD buck harvest.

Well, when Montanans can find more Washington plates than bucks, it tends to become a point of discussion.
This is an issue in Idaho too. I do like the idea as a resident of reducing non-res tag numbers but another part of the solution is for Washington to open up more hunting opportunities to residents. I don't know much about Washington, I just hear it's difficult at best as a resident to hunt there.

Why settle for less, has Moga?
what is “less” and why do you think this is “settling”? Some version of this idea has been floated for years, by Rs and NRs including myself. I’m pretty sure Gerald and the group had a variation in the plan they submitted a year ago. The issue is the $$$. Like I said, take the win and keep pushing for more. The simple fact remains- the only thing MT hunters will ever agree on is penalizing the NR somehow.

Apples and oranges comparing WA to MT on a variety of inputs- land ownership, weather, terrain, population density, etc.

At least the commish can find time to fight the good fight lol.
Sometimes I worry that the commissioners and legislature pay too much attention to those Facebook comments and not enough to official public comments. I think commissioner Wargo is smart enough not to worry about the Facebook comments but I know a lot of the legislators read them.
