I looked at all of them , pop out , pop up , slide out , slide in , LOL

I ordered a 12x7x7 cargo trailer , insulated , tube steel frame , lights inside and out , $7500 delivered to my door . ETA next week .
I'm going to put a hot water shower and a Modicool toilet with a basic solar set up and hope to stay under $10K .
Also thinking about putting a second alternator on the truck just to charge the batteries .
I've been way down the rabbit hole ...

I just cant help but think how wobbly they would be. Every time you move, scoot, or roll over the whole thing would move since you are riding on the suspension of the pickup. I couldn't imagine sleeping in the slide part during a windy night when the whole truck is swaying back and forth.

I don't know about the slide out part. I've considered some type of pope up for convenience. I see a couple of issues though.

I like being able to hope in my truck and leave at any point. Go check out a different spot of if I need to leave in a hurry. Those pop ups seem like they'd need to be pulled down first.

Cost is also an issue. I also don't know how much quicker and easier they'd be from a free standing tent. To be fair I haven't researched them seriously.

20k seems insane to me! Its a cool product, but seriously 20k!! I cant shit, shower, or shave in it at least not in a sanitary way. Haha

I went from a tent to sleeping outside on a cot (no tent) to sleeping in a cot under the truck canopy to sleeping on a bed platform under the canopy to a slide-in pop up camper. The pop-up is slightly slower than the bed/cot under the truck topper, but not by much. It is significantly faster than a tent, I have way more storage and if I am really crunched driving long distance or something it is easy to sleep with it down. No way I would go back

How are you liking your truck camper?

This spring I picked up something similar, but mine pops up not out.There's a bunch of different company's making these nowadays, so do your homework if interested. I'm extremely happy with my decision, I'm super mobile with this set up, and not dragging a pull behind cross country.

As far as stability when moving around inside, that could bother some but it depends on your rig set up, I added sumo springs to my truck and the bed is in contact with them, my setup doesn't move around anymore than the small pull behind camper I sold to get this.

Set up and take down time is literally <2mins.

This summer I've been working on doing some finishing to the interior, added 2 flexible solar panels to the roof, next is a shore power plug and a diesel heater port. Obviously this set up isn't for everyone, but for my needs and traveling style it's perfect so far.

This was my first night in mine in mid-Feb, somewhere in ID. 100+ nights since then. Nearly perfect for my needs.
