What 100 year old cartridges do you use

Ruger 77 composite/stainless. I’ve carried it a few times for bear but yet to shoot anything with it.

What twist ? I have had two 35 Whelens, did all my hunting with one or the other for over a decades

what twist are you going with, 1/16, 1/14, or 1/12.

I had the first two, if doing another Whelen I would go with the 1/16, Can MOA with the 200 grain Barnes TSX, Can shoot the 158 grain RN 38 pistol bullets down loaded for small game dam well and makes decent shot loads for grouse or quail up close. The controlled round feed makes the shot loads harder to load.

If you go with the 1/14 or 1/12 all you have is a big game rifle

I’m after the 1:12. Hope to shoot heavier bullets but the thought of the lighter pistol bullets sounds fun. Hammer makes some 255 grain ones I’m interested in trying.
