Late to this party, but lots of good points were expressed here about the importance of scope choice. Mounted low for quicker shots. I love the general consensus of magnification here in HuntTalk as I find most people have rifles hunting rifles that are way over-glassed. To try and prove this to friends i shot a nice 3-shot group at 100 yards at 3.5x on my VX3i.

What about 30mm vs 1" tubes?

The reality of tube size is that the quality of the lens coating has more to do with light transmission. Otherwise the 30mm is just extra weight.

Another reply towards ring height.
I grew up using, and still use, lever action rifles with rings allowing me to use either iron sights or my scope.
In relation to those, my 7RM seems low enough for me!

Were those indeed Medium rings in your photos? Im looking to mount that Leupold VX3i with the 40mm obj lens (177820) on a Browning X-Bolt WH but wanted to ensure I had enough height for a good cheek weld and eye relief.

They are Medium height. Just checked the packaging to be sure

same scope i recently put on my .270. for the money, i dont think these scopes can be beat
