Well I thought I’d share this here as a reminder to always be ready for a first aid situation. I was elk hunting Saturday and had a freak accident. I slipped on a wet stick side hilling (I’m sure we’ve all had it happen) and landed ear first into a sharp branch sticking up from a deadfall tree. It almost amputated my ear lobe, luckily I had a few buddies with me. They cleaned it out and bandaged it up. I made it into the urgent care 3 hours later to get 20 stitches. Blessed it was just a flesh wound and missed my eye, or any other vital areas. IMG_9707.jpeg

Doc got me all stiched up, have some follow up appointments with some wound specialists. First question I’ll have is: Can I get back to hunting!?

Best of luck and stay safe out there!

Wow, this could have been so much worse.

Be on the lookout for easier thermal damage (frost bite), especially this winter. New blood supply can be wonky, and nerves were cut and might not grow back to give your brain the heads up that tissue damage is happening.

OUCH!! Hope it heals quickly and that you're back out there hunting.

Is there a reason other than "cosmetic" why you just wouldn't have told to doc to say the hell with it and just cut it off?

Yeah, I was kind of mentally prepared for that outcome. The PA that looked at it said I might need to go to the ER and have it looked at by plastics. After he cleaned it up he seemed to have more confidence he could put it back together.

I've already tricked a good woman into marrying me and have successfully spread my seed...It wouldn't have been the worst thing, but I am glad he was able to stitch it together.

I know a guy that tripped and a stick went right into his ear drum. Been Def in that ear since.
