Oregon NR S. Bear do i really have a chance

Would you mind sharing what elevations snow is at out your way now? I'm headed to the Snake for bear hunt 4/9 from Central OR. Long drive to get out there.

Thanks
If you're headed over this early, you're going to run into a lot of snow and very limited access on the Snake. You'll certainly be walking in from the bottom of something. The only time I hunted that unit, we were there over Memorial Day weekend and still found snowdrifts across the roads at moderate elevations. On the other hand, there may be bears moving down low.

Edit to add: Snotel still shows 9 inches of snow along the interstate between Pendleton and LaGrande and several feet at elevations similar to the Snake River unit.

We didn't find any sign on the coast but nice to get out with a pair of binoculars. Skunk cabbage is out. We did catch some Dungeness crab off a pier north of Tillamook and a bunch of clams.
Those Dungeness got my mouth watering. I used to live in Sequim WA, the Dungeness River was less than 1/8th mile from my house. Pitchforking winter crabs low-tide at night with waders and a headlamp...that's a darn good time!

Skunk cabbage, I'll be looking for it! Find the food and find the bears!

Happy harvesting!
