If you're headed over this early, you're going to run into a lot of snow and very limited access on the Snake. You'll certainly be walking in from the bottom of something. The only time I hunted that unit, we were there over Memorial Day weekend and still found snowdrifts across the roads at moderate elevations. On the other hand, there may be bears moving down low.Would you mind sharing what elevations snow is at out your way now? I'm headed to the Snake for bear hunt 4/9 from Central OR. Long drive to get out there.
Thanks
Edit to add: Snotel still shows 9 inches of snow along the interstate between Pendleton and LaGrande and several feet at elevations similar to the Snake River unit.
