Open AK fishing spot for someone that may be interested...

20 years with the same boat and captain? How has the fishing changed? Same spots every year? Same techniques, different techniques?

I listened to the meateater podcast last week about fishing technology and it has me wondering.
About 15 years with the same captain. Now fishing with another captain that it turns out hunted out of a good friends Montana hunting camp for 30 years.

The fishing changes year to year with species, numbers, etc.

Seems like the trick is just knowing where those guys like to hang out. Catching them was the easiest fishing I’ve ever done in my life.

We filled our 8 man limit in 3.5 minutes.
How deep? Was it super rocky there? On a cliff? Near shore? There isn't a lot of information on the internet or you tube videos on catching them as they aren't really a primo species in the sport catching world but I keep hearing they are delicious so my curiosity is at a ten to figure it out!

Entire water column. You can see them and keep your jigs away from the small ones to catch the bigger ones. I've seen them jump out of the water to grab a jig a foot above the water.

Ok but what type of depth of water are you in though? It's just something I haven't figured out yet

great looking trip! I need to make it back to AK for a similar trip. Unfortunately the charter I used and had great trips with closed

Book a trip.
Naw, ill continue to rent my own boat and explore on my own - it's painful at times but still a blast. Those dark rockfish I just can't figure out and was looking for a freebie. Perhaps it's best I continue to struggle until it finally clicks!

There's a shock, you looking for a handout while providing exactly nothing for anyone else.

Going home day. Will be rough going from 60 to the 90s again! Had a GREAT time and we caught literally a ton (2 actually!) of fish. Felt fantastic to get back to Alaska one more time and see a new place. Thanks again to @BuzzH and the rest of the guys for having me along for the trip. I really enjoyed it. If you ever have an empty spot again... ;)

Would be interesting to know the costs of doing this trip for you. I know airfare and things like that change based on selections, but would be interested to know the break down. How much fish you are taking home and how are you doing it and the cost, the guide and boat, hotels, food...etc..etc. Glad you had a good itme and it looks like good weather.

I can't imagine cleaning that much fish in such a short time. Looks like a great time and I wish I had went out on a boat to fish when I was there back in 2019 but hunting was more important to me and I wouldn't trade my Sitka deer for fishing.

Fish processors are worth every penny! Charter boat pulled up to the pier, processor hoisted the tote up and sent it back down with ice and bait for the next day, we picked up our boxes when we left.

I won't get too far into the details because it's not my place to talk about the group's routine. The processor charge for me came to $708 for 154 pounds of filets and 4 boxes, including tax. We figured the boat averaged 1000 pounds of fish per day with 8 people. That we KEPT!
