Nope smokers not allowed

I'll be a stick in the mud.

Funny that many defend cannabis by throwing alcohol under the bus. Maybe we should legalize cannabis and outlaw alcohol. From a purely statistical harm perspective it makes sense. Alcohol-related injuries and deaths exceeds 178,000 people per year.

From an emotional perspective I wonder why either substance is so important to people. Does everyone hate life so much that you have to numb your senses to get through the day? Can't you have a good time without mind altering chemicals to make it fun?

You're free to do what you want if it's legal. I'm free to have my opinion about it; and you're free to not care about my opinion. But this is a discussion where we are sharing our opinions so I have offered mine. Now tell me I'm a prudish-judgmental-something-or-other, or don't, it's up to you.

I mean.. How's a guy supposed to dance or swing a gulf club without a little lubrication?

All drugs affect people differently, my ex could take 10 Vicodin 1000 pills during a day and function, at her level it was no problem.
In the 70’s and 80’s everyone on the line was on something, or so it seemed, alcohol being the drug of choice, coke a close second.
Weed was everywhere.
We survived, most of us anyway, 😂.

Start my day with coffee, so.... Americans love their drugs. Legal or illegal. From Pharma or back-woods shack. They don't care. You have to accept that first, then decide where to draw the line.
The legal/not legal drug crisis for opiods is an interesting one applied to this.

Its not as if 4473s state "have you taken perscription medication that wasnt yours or was yours but not for the perscribed condition" - but those people are by definition illegal drug users. I got curious and googled it - couldnt find anyone specifically thats been prosecuted for that. Good thing i suppose - imagine thatd be a plethora of people.

In oral arguments - ACB eluded to taking a spouses sleeping aid perscription and the Gov didnt seem to have an answer.

Do you enjoy cake or ice cream or christmas cookies? Or "quality time" with your partner? Do you enjoy beautiful places and pretty views? You do know the enjoyment of those is directly related to changes in brain chemistry?

Do you hate life so much that you need to numb it with ice cream?

Make them all legal, but you're only allowed to be under the influence while on private property.

Get drunk at a bar? Hope your brought a sleeping bag!

High at a friend's house? Don't make plans to leave!

Drink coffee at home? Better stick around until that caffeine headache sets in!

That way those of us that are saints can enjoy public spaces without seeing, smelling, or hearing your various vices.

Real experiences and pleasure versus artificial and fabricated.

I'll admit, there may be something to your point. I just looked up which spices and foods can have psychoactive effects and it's real. However, I'm not sure I am ready to lump nutmeg in with marijuana; or ice cream with alcohol.

I don't have to think it is good for some one to use cannabis, or alcohol to know it's better, overall, that the use does not necessarily put you on the wrong side of the law.

My observation spanning too damn long is that heavy use of any of them does a decent amount of harm, and almost never a tangible benefit.

There is something about the human condition that a percentage of people have always sought some way of warping reality. It is quite often a self medication for an emotional difficulty. Millions of soldiers throughout history have self medicated to deal with PTSD. Many wounded soldiers coming out of the Civil War, had a morphine addiction for the remainder of their lives. You could get it thru Sears, back in the day.
