NM unit 16 archery mulie rut

I have a tag for NM Unit 16 (Gila) for Jan 1-10 which, supposedly, coincides with the mulie rut down there. Does anyone have experience hunting that unit (actually 4 contiguous units) and in that time of year? If so, can you advise as to where to focus, base of operations (I assume Silver City), etc? Thanks in advance.

Reserve or Apache Creek would be best bet.SC is long ways from most of 16's ,except the wilderness high country and that will snowed in.
It gets very cold out here then. Most of it is above 7k.Teens and below zero at night.
Try the PJ country,it might be less brutal and more traffic on a road if you break down.
The middle of 16 in winter is brutal.
