Out of curiosity. Where does MT Rep. Troy Downing stand? Why is his name not mentioned?

This letter makes me more suspicious than it is comforting. There is no point or reason for it. It is unnecessary. They just have to tell Johnson “we are a ‘no’”. But whatever. A win is a win. I’m not going to go full conspiracy theory. The whole “you’re on a mission from God” is a really nice touch though. Chefs kiss.

Could not agree more, sadly I have little hope in the GOP in this state to recognize a snake in the grass.
There’s far less hope in Wyoming unfortunately. We have a better chance at removing Lee in Utah.

The point is political capital.
Notice the timing of this, Daines statement and some others: looks like Lee’s efforts are almost certainly dead in the water at this point- it’s a safe time to make tough statement to try to earn some political capital (without the risk of getting sideways with DT).

That said- I don’t think the July 4th target date is looking very likely at this point regardless of what happens with Lee’s part. There are other R Senators that are coming out as a “no” right now as well, Ron Johnson-WI being one of them (for other reasons).
Some of the entitlement parts of the BBB are going to be really tricky for these guys to navigate, I’m not sure how close the Senate is to having something that is actually going to pass right now.
