Yeah, you’re probably right. But not being able to just call the Speaker and tell him where you stand shows how dysfunctional the entire body is. And “…restore fiscal sanity”? Do they type that with a straight face? The other members of their party voting ‘no’ would certainly disagree with that effusive statement. The point is political capital.
Notice the timing of this, Daines statement and some others: looks like Lee’s efforts are almost certainly dead in the water at this point- it’s a safe time to make tough statement to try to earn some political capital (without the risk of getting sideways with DT).
I'll go out here on a limb and say that daines and zinke did more than enough (and thats why we are here) when it didnt grant them political capital at all.The point is political capital.

There’s a time and place for every kind of legislation. The reconciliation bill isn’t meant for much of what they are trying to pass. If they want to pass something, put it up for a 60% vote. That’s how the senate is meant to work. The Twitterverse of MAGA-land is trying to demonize the Parliamentarian for her role in keeping multiple add-ons out of the BBB. She is keeping folks messing with Medicaid stymied in a similar fashion to Lee's attempts to get public land sell-offs out of a reconciliation package.

I remember a fit being thrown like 4 years ago when one party wanted too can the filibuster. Isn't putting non budget related things on reconciliation to by pass the 60 votes in the same boat???? Wierd how hypocrisy works. The Twitterverse of MAGA-land is trying to demonize the Parliamentarian for her role in keeping multiple add-ons out of the BBB. The same parliamentarian stripped the HPA out of the bill. I doubt seriously that provision had much if any push back at all. There's always someone out their willing to give the middle finger to the will of the public.
Selling govt property =/ budgetThe Parliamentarian is only following the rules that the Senate has set for themselves. If you want to be angry at someone, then be angry at the people who can't be bothered to follow their own rules.
Sounds like there's still hope to revise the language to the House version that just zeroes the tax rather than removing suppressors and SBR's from the NFA entirely. That would still be a win in my book. The same parliamentarian stripped the HPA out of the bill. I doubt seriously that provision had much if any push back at all. I didn't realize the Senate version removed items from the NFA entirely. It makes sense to me that that's getting out over their skis on policy vs fiscal changes. Hopefully the House version passes, although a cynical part of me wonders if R's don't want to keep this as something to campaign on.Selling govt property =/ budget
Reducing/raising taxes = budget
Fulcher sucks.Just finished making my daily calls to the Idaho Delegation. Finally someone answered the phone in Representative Fulchers office. The staffer told me Congressman Fulcher is in favor of the bill language Lee is offering up and is additionally in favor of State Transfer.
He voted for the original version in the House.
Those of us in his district of Idaho can react accordingly at the polls...
What is the NFA functionally doing?I didn't realize the Senate version removed items from the NFA entirely. It makes sense to me that that's getting out over their skis on policy vs fiscal changes.
