New CPW Commissioner

Thank you, that is helpful. While there is some overlap in hunting issues from CO to NY, we do not have mountain lions or wolves, so the conversation is different here, and I'm catching up on it. In NY, deer are overrun, about ~1 million any given year, with hunters taking ~250,000...it's well established that hunting is a management tool at least for that species. I've waded into the research a bit on hunting predators as a management tool and am finding mixed results, especially for the mountain lions. Basically, hunting the older males destabilizes populations, leading to more urban conflict. Do you have good sources on this for me to look into?

Quit? No. Have realistic expectations and realize that unless there is a BIG swing in demographics of those moving in and out of CO that the future for gun rights and hunting in CO is not good. If anyone has a belief that those currently in power in CO (and likely for the foreseeable future) are in any way pro-hunting, or even disinterested, I would say they are living a bit of a fantasy.
What are your realistic expectations and how do you suggest we advocate for them?

This is why we should already be advocating w Bennet and Weiser to restore sportsperson influence to CPW directorship and BOC.
How about you just get Victor Marx elected?

Holy crap the dems the just killed a bill to make sex trafficking a felony, and introduced a bill to legalize prostitution. Demons are running the state in all agencies and the legislature.

Like it or not, they still will come January. The larger the coalition of sportspeople including hunters, the harder we are to ignore. The bigger a target it is during primaries, the better for our cause. Because of his power to appoint CPW Commissioners, the Governor's is the most impactful voice for our cause. We must expand, monetize and increase public volume coming from our advocacy groups.

My expectations for the state, having lived here 17 years, are that the state is well past the tipping point when it comes to these issues. As the state has gone from purple to very blue, even given the HUGE amount of dollars hunting generates in the state, policies and attitudes have followed directly and negatively for trapping and hunting. Given the entire spectrum of political changes, along with the skyrocketing cost of living, the folks moving here are more and more blue (and from even more blue states) and the folks leaving due to these things are the more red folks (including those most interested in these issues). Given what the state legislature looks like, and the absolutely insane initiatives floated every session, I can't really see a legitimate way forward. Opportunities, seasons and access will be chipped away at to the very core. The biggest problem is that the folks who lean blue but might be concerned about hunting are by FAR a minority of constituents with the folks they WILL vote for and their voices don't really hold weight. It will be a question of priorities with them and I think they will acquiesce to their group due to what they will hold "more important issues". It really is a question of numbers. Not just about blue leaners, but the TYPE of blue leaners who are the numbers. I hunt WI regularly and it is pretty purple/blue leaning BUT hunting culture is HUGE and the very whisper of going after it is catastrophe for a candidate.

As for me, as soon as the wife has gotten her pension contributions to where she wants (1-1.5 yrs) we are headed back to the Midwest. I love the mountains, but I can visit them. The people and COLA here get worse by the day and every time I go home to visit or hunt it really smacks me in the face.

You do know that several years ago they legalized abortion up until birth, right? 2 years after voting to bring back and protect fricking wolves......let THAT sink in and you will understand where the state is at.

I'm fully aware. Here is what is different this cycle, we are 4 years past Roe V Wade being over turned where a vast majority of of women voters were so pissed about "womens health care" They believed the lie democrats told them about abortion, and who they must vote for.

Prop 127 key to winning was urban women voters. 49.57 percent of Colorado voters are independent. I don't have a political science degree, but my daughter is working on one. Women voters can chose between Tantrum Mike, Weasel Wieser, or Pastor Victor Marx, who has a black belt, has rescued children for a living, and is full of compassion.

The key to the governors mansion lies with women voters. People need to start talking to them and telling them democrats want to traffic their kids, and make them prostitutes because it is true.

Prove this asinine accusation.

Then show me one piece of media with Marx advocating for public lands, wildlife, hunting, fishing. His website has one sentence about opposing wolves killing livestock. He makes no mention of how he plans to fix that. Zero legislative experience.

As GOP candidate, will he or any of the others adhere to the party's platform driving transfer of public lands to private ownership? History suggests lockstep loyalty to party platform.

Here is Marx's competition for GOP primary (so far). One of them endorses hanging media members, others continue to deny the 2020 election but 2024. One claims DO is a deeply red state with a completely corrupt election system handing huge majorities to Dems.

Of course, he'll follow 47's plan to fix that and everything else.

  • Stevan Gess[24]
  • Jon Gray-Ginsberg, candidate for governor in 2022[25]
  • Robin Jones[26]

By all means, @grasshopper , @SFC B and other red bulls, keep this forum posted on the big plans GOP candidates have for wildlife, habitat, hunting, fishing and the CPW. Those issues matter most to HT users.

Baseless, obviously false and looney assertions like CO Dems intending to prostitute children negate any credibility in your arguments. Feel free to prove me wrong about this with verifiable facts.
