The two Roadrunners that have called our property home for the past few months
have had a litter of two pups...
It looks to be one male and one female. They are supposed to take care of themselves
3 days after leaving the nest. Obviously no one told them .
Pic one-Mom and Dad.
Pic 2 Jr.begging for food.
Pic 3 little missy waiting to be fed.
Mom has already started a new nest just outside our kitchen window...How convenient. 💥 RETURNING TO NEST WITH FOOD 4-8-20.jpgSporting new shades 4-20' (1).jpgMom and Baby 4-19-20.jpg

I’ve always enjoyed seeing roadrunners when I hunted in AZ and the Southwest. That is pretty sweet. We have meadowlarks that nest on our place each year. Sometimes Huns. They are special to us. I always smile knowing hunters enjoy so much more than non-hunters realize.

I've only seen one road runner in my life, while spending a week in New Mexico. Pretty cool bird. Had a pair of crows nesting in a redwood tree in my neighbor's yard last summer. Kinda liked watching the two babies growing up. Then just before they were big enough to fly a red tail hawk came and invited them over for lunch. I never saw them again.

Mother Nature is cruel that way sometimes..

Update on the Roadrunner family.
Went outside to work on an irrigation issue, made a few Roadrunner locating calls.
They sound like Castanets, and I can immitate them quite well...Too Well.
The whole family showed up from different parts of the property for a
Mothers Day brunch, that obviously thought I was hosting.
As luck would have it I had some round steaks diced up.
And Momma bird now has more players warming up in the batters box!
Anyone know the number to the Acme Co.? or Wiley's number?
Happy mothers day! 💥 20200510_103739-1.jpg

Came home from grocery shopping this am. and the momma Roadrunner"Missy" was collecting food.
I followed her back to her nest and just emerging from one of the eggs was this fully formed little Roadrunner.
Four more left to go.They were laid on different days.It may take awhile for all to hatch.
I'm going to leave her alone for awhile so she can feel safe.
More pics soon... 💥 20200513_104801-2.jpg20200513_104801-2-1.jpg

"Missy" ran by this afternoon to show off a big ol' grasshopper she caught,
peeked in the nest, and now we have two little peckers napping in the nest!
Queen of the Night cactus bloomed last night.Pic of them opening yesterday evening,
and fully open this morning. 💥
