A lot of discussion on gear on here, and I’m packing now so I figured I could put my list here. Maybe it could be useful to someone.
This is what I’m taking to Alaska to help on an August dall sheep hunt.
It would be adjusted to have warmer clothes for a later hunt

This is what I’ve found works for me. It may not work for you.

Figured the 11s would be best for my kit but damn, they’re a little large.

6-17 days depending on when/if there’s a kill.

You can cut 5 oz by swapping a liter pop bottle for the nalgene

Probably.
But The Nalgene is indestructible
And the it fits perfectly in the water bottle holder on my pack made for a
Nalgene

And i like the wide mouth. Easy to fill up. Easy to mix in drinks. Easy to dump out.

Gomer, are there still issues flying with isobutane or are you hiking in? I just got a screaming craigslist deal on a msr white gas stove specifically for taking to alaska to eliminate that hassle with flying.

I think there is. I’m hiking into 14c and will just get the iso in Anchorage.

I just knocked hard on some wood and will respond by saying I’m not bringing any. I’ve brought it before into the mountains and just never use it. Not saying that’s the right or a bright idea.

I’ve only ever used the iodine tabs a few times in Montana when getting water from a stale, stagnant alpine tarn. Other than that, i just drink it. So far so good.
