I'm planning on going to MT this fall after elk on a general tag. My question is should I apply for a special unit and get a preference point to start building points/get lucky and get a special tag? My hours this week will allow me to call Fish and Game finally but any advice from you would be appreciated.

Yup. I know guys who have drawn some pretty amazing tags without any points. The benefits of a bonus point system over a preference point system.

Yes apply for a permit in one of the breaks units , you never know ! Good luck to all
