Is a Montana general elk or deer license valid the day you buy it, or do you have to wait till the next day? I have to buy my nephew his licenses when I get up there next week because his mom can't "afford" to.

Yep, the only tag that you have to wait on is a bear tag, other than that you can start hunting as soon as you buy your license
