Leupold New VX-2

Lots of talk at SHOT Show about the new Leupold VX-2. The fact that it will be amazing quality that Leupold is known for, but at a price point that is in reach of most guys putting together a hunting rifle.

I think you will see a lot of these ending up on rifles out west. Gonna be hard to beat the value at that intersection of quality and price.

These are so new, you cannot even find info about them on the Leupold website. Not sure if Schmalts at Predator Optics has them yet.

I'm sure it will be a good scope leupold makes a great scope and customer service is been very helpful with the few times I have talked with them

Ample feature gain and no price increase....good deal. They were darn good scopes for the dough at the old construction. Should dominate their pricepoint.

I'm a Leupold guy and have them on most of my rifles with two VXIs and a VXII on my three "go to" ones. I also really like their dual dovetail ring/base system!

Yes....but not in the vx-2 line. Check out the Mark AR series.

When learning how to reload this summer I went thru some trials and even took my Leupold VX-II scope and mount off at one point and put another scope and mount on the gun. I finally got things figured out and realized I did not have a scope or mount issue but I had lost the windage screws for the Leupold base. I called Leupold for more screws and told them I had lost the originals. They replaced them at no charge and said they were glad to do it. Outstanding customer service at any time but especially this day and age. Leupold is all I will buy from this point on.

What do you mean by "true mil dot"?

Not gonna get a FFP scope for $600..... Skip the dots and get something with a CDS dial. Think vx-3 4.5-14x40mm or vx-2 6-18x40mm in the price range you are looking for.

There are a few FFP scopes are out there for that much, just not from Leupold. However, I do agree that turrets are the way to go if one wants to shoot long.

I am thinking seriously @ moving my 3x9x40 Vari-X II off the bolt 30-06 to my bolt slug gun. Then upgrading to the Vari-X 2 for my rifle. I hunt deer w the rifle in MN, WI, WY, and antelope in WY. Thinking @ going w the 4x12x40 for my western hunting. I think 4X will still work for close shots in MN, & WI. Will I really notice an improvement with the 12x over the 9X, or not ? Is that too much magnification for a 40mm lense ? Plus, I dont want to add more weight to my rifle. Its already heavy enough w the bi-pod. Thanks for your opinions.

Depends on what you want as an improvement. In many ways magnification is overrated for actual hunting use if you cannot hold the gun steady. All you end up seeing is how much more you shake. However, I like magnification if I am using it on a very steady bench rest or bipod.

You can get a VX2 with the LRD reticle. It will get you really close out to 600 yards. I don't think a CDS is nessary at hunting distances. I have one on my 270wsm and it's simple and works really well.
