This weekend I'm heading up to a friend's farm for the last days of the muzzleloader season here in Minnesota. He's up in Duluth (pretty damn north).

The deer are definitely in post rut, so what works? Attractants? Rattling? Grunts? Just sitting there, freezing and staying motionless?

Also, if any of you midwest/northerners can clue me in on when/if there is a "secondary rut", I'd appreciate it. Never really understood the secondary rut thing, so please clue me in!

Hunt the food. I too will be out this weekend. At this time of the year I forget about the scents and try to hunt between the bedding areas and the food. Morning hunting for me is a bit spotty but the evening hunt is pretty good. There is a pretty full moon out so that is going to make it a bit more difficult. Bucks may still cruise a little as 2nd rut should kick in soon and we have killed bucks off of scrape lines but by far the best bet is that evening hunt on or near the food. Good luck!
