Some may rememer that I took on my first project car a couple years ago....Been putting new floors in, new body panels...sanding until my fingers bled, etc.....'ve learned a lot since I'm mechanically retarded.

Well. Here's the 1980 IH Scout, with factory turbo diesel, now back on the road.

It turned out great.

Here's the biggest lesson I've learned. It's sucking black hole of money and time, and the project is never done, but I've enjoyed it along the way.

Just in time for your son to go cruising around in.Actually my brother-in-law that lives in the hills had an old scout that they would take on the two tracks up in the hills looking at the old building sites and things like that.

Looks pretty good, any before pictures?
What all'd you have to do?

Very nice!
I had a '65 Scout 3 spd - removable hard top - What fun that vehicle produced! I can only imagine the inner smile driving your scout to town and getting that "thumbs up" passing by... or coming out from the market to find some gent and his son/grandson - looking over the vehicle.

Makes me want to look into them again - then... your blackhole comment reminds me WHY I valued those few "thumbs up" props from others.

Those that value such time and pride vested in such - well, here is a "Thumbs Up!" to ya!

Very nice!

I rebuilt a 1969 Scout while in college, had a scheme to sell it for a big profit of $300 to pay for my books that semester. I sold it to a nice old couple and the engine blew the next week. I had to refund the purchase price and eat the repairs. Lets just say it was one of many lessons I learned in college....

Very cool, I've always wanted to restore a Scout myself as well. Your's is very nice.

I had a 74 Scout II with the 345. Bought it, had the springs re-arched and put General Alltreads on it. You could hear that thing singing down the road for 3 miles! Great job, I always thought the balance made them a great vehicle. Does yours have Disk Brakes or are you going to upgrade the Brakes? If you can find one that is not too rusted out is the biggest problem. You did a real fine job. John

I saw that the other day.............should I ask him about how did he weld the Frame back together or other Chit like that? I know you are sick about that. Somebody is gonna get a good Beaner. John

I sold it to him knowing he was going to resell it...that's what he does....but I didn't expect to see that kind of value. Oh well, live and learn.

Oak, I'm in the land of Western CO. Been living in the camptrailer down by the river for the last 2 months. We close on a house here next week and the wife and kids come up next weekend. The only hitch in the relocation is that our house sale in SD fell through.....so we're going to own 2 homes. Sweet! Hopefully it will sell in the next month or two, if not, we'll rent it out.

I've been having fun on my days off here. Kinda turned into a fisherwussy some. I can't get enough of that Gunnison fishing. I've done a few day trips into the high country and have seen piles of elk, a few deer, and a lot of sheep. Who knows, maybe I'll pull another sheep tag before I'm using a walker.

"I recently aquired the vehicle from a friend who was restoring the vehicle and then took a job transfer out of state"

Is he still a friend?? From what I've seen you did a great job with that Scout. You can always get another one.

Hey, I've got another friend living in a camptrailer down by the river over there. He's a fisherwussy too. You might have run into him.

I'll have to talk to you about where you're seeing the sheep.

Hope the house thing works out. Maybe we can get out in the field together sometime this fall.
