Iditarod 2023

The 2 hour penalty was probably better move than trying to gut that thing solo at 1:30 in the morning with those temps.

I found the rule interesting that no other musher may pass until it's gutted and they must assist

But ya at those temps I wouldn't want to be digging around in a chest cavity getting my hands wet
I would not want to have blood up to my shoulders and have to mush a few hours to the next checkpoint.

I’d assume he had a hatched I would have spilt the ribs across the back and the sternum and just rolled it all out it would probably take 15-20min not a standard gut job but would work. Throw that in with striping down and what it doesn’t to your gear and dealing with those dogs I’d say 2 hour penalty is the better bet

Looks like barring a catastrophic failure Dallas is going to win again! 3 hour lead and only one stop before hitting Nome.

Been following along. I wonder why Dallas Seavey never races anymore. Anyone know?
He's had some issues regarding his dogs and with penalties for not properly gutting a moose killed on the trail during the race. He said he wanted to spend more time with his family.
