After reading about Mrs. Fins new boat and seeing another fella post a pic of his side imaging of his helix I thought I'd offer up a tip on the HB Helix Sideimaging. While Mega Side imaging is a great sales gimmick it really only shines on close up targets. I have found that going to a full screen of side imaging, then go to menu and sonar setup, then go to side-imaging and select 455khz. This is old school, but it works WAY better at picking up fish at longer distances. I set my side imaging up to scan 115 out each side and often see walleyes at 90-115' because they spook from the boat. Mega won't give you that kind of distance and you will just have black edges to your screen. Blue color pallet also seems to work best on walleyes IMO. Headed out the door after a quick 6 hour nap for another trip to the MO river tomorrow AM. I will try to post a pic of the mixed bag of fish that we scanned last week out there with 455 side imaging. Best Fishes!
