I like this thread. Pretty realistic and helpful.
I stopped weighing my packs 10+ years ago and went to a seasonal need list based upon what I felt I needed for the times & place I was hunting.
The weight idea always sat wrong with me (probably says a lot about me
) and I found I was paying to much attention to “how heavy” my pack was instead of peace of mind knowing I had what I needed. (I have a tendency to be to minimalistic so I have my wife go through my packs and ask me on every item, “why”. If the answer is logical it passes, if I hesitate or use a subjective answer it does not) Not a perfect system but it has worked for me plus she has a peace of mind knowing I am set up in case something goes south.
Since doing this, along with weekly year round sand bag workouts,(most of the year 🫩) I don’t have an issue with any pack I use for the most part.
I would emphasize water, water, water.
