My buddy just found out that he's going to be playing the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in late June. I'm going to drive down and spend a week camping with him during festival. Do any of the Colorado guys have any hiking or fishing suggestions for that part of the state? Hopefully runoff will cooperate so that I can find a few cutthroat. I'd like to find a small headwater stream that offers some good hiking/views that might hold some Colorado River, Rio Grande, or greenback cutthroat? I may try to squeeze in a scouting trip for a future deer hunt, but it doubt I'll have time.

It's a playground, lots of good country to keep you busy for a week.

I do think the higher country stream/river fishing will still be too high/muddy. The Gunnison tailwaters (1.5 hour drive from Telluride) has some really good fishing with the stonefly hatch usually peaking around mid June. It can be stupid good fishing for some very large fish. It's not high country, but there is some great fishing only accessible by trails.

I'll be backpacking in early June to some high country lakes out of nearby Silverton. It's my first time in this area. I'll let you know how it is.
