I can think of no thing more individual than a persons choice of functional headwear. Often we can identify a person from a distance simply by their hat. It really becomes a part of you and is an extension of your personality.

Share your personal trademark topper here and why it is special to you.

This sweat stained Resistol felt cowboy hat belonged to my grandfather for years. When I bought his house, it was hanging in the back porch still. I began wearing it and it became my Lucky Elk hunting hat...

I just received a new addition to the hat collection that I hope will create as much a legacy.

My newest. Buffalo felt Stetson. I must have 50 hats, including my uncles collection.
My favorite cowboy hat is the oldest I bought. Got it the day Nixon resigned in Butte.
Have campaign hats from TR & Pershing. 1800's Navy caps. A Kaiser calvalry helmet.
A Scotts Guard feathered helmet....a collection.

I really only wear a ball cap - I don't feel qualified to wear my Stetson that I got from my Dad. But I still have my Great Grandpa's Stetson that I wore when I was younger and his old chaps. I'm so proud to have those but just don't feel like I can rock a Stetson in my life. I've considered getting like a Pendleton Felt Hat that is similar but not the same. Great looking hats all.

@2rocky that is fantastic that has become your lucky elk hat. I wish my Grandpas fit me! Great lookin hat!

My favorite is my handman Australian mountain hat I got in the Australian Alps the last time I was in Saltsbourg. Its my goto for most of the year.

I also like this commie beaver hat from Russia.

And my actual go-to winter hat is this circa-2000s, probably 05 or 06, Simms cap that is the best thing they ever made.

I loathe ballcaps.

Oh! And my tweed Donegal cap from Ireland. Have a friend over there I’ve gone fishing with a few times. Fergal, a real bogtrotter if ever there was one. I told him I needed an Irish cap for some fishing we were doing in Mayo. When I got there, sure enough there was a nice donegal cap for me. I asked him how much I owed him, and he responded that I didn’t owe him anything because he knows a guy with a clothing store who accepted some frozen mackerel in exchange for the hat.

I just took a selfie for you all.

I love hats. Not ballcaps, tho, for they are an abomination.

I don't wear many hats, because most hats don't fit me on account of my abnormally robust skull and a head full of horsehair.

That said, I wear a lot of beanies. Usually get one and wear it until I feel it's lost its mojo. Current one is brown and by Carhartt and still has a lot of mojo left.
Carhartt makes the best "stocking caps" imo never did like anything beanie style though usually thin and a little too small for my liking.

To commemorate the OP title, Chris Ledoux:

Don't understand the disdain for ball caps as I have a couple that are sweat stained, bill burred, frayed, and proudly worn due to the history. UM Griz to Carhartt - though t'is the thread title.
I'll pull up a couple of my worn and blistered straw cowboy hats, fishing brim, or some hunting stocking cap.

Off the bat, less ball caps, some C4E cap:

I think I’ve seen that Russian hat before:
