Clearly his handlers are smart enough not to bring this up before the GA election. However, are we to not pay attention to the promises he made to ban ARs? Why would he change his position based on Senate outcome? Trump has MANY faults, but you never failed to know what he thought about major issues, and he didn't vary even when it would have been politically expedient to do so. Why does it matter when he said it?

Yes it does, but biden has rather anti gun wishlist. A good portion of hunters use some type of firearm, Purchase ammo either locally or online, and might have a gun there was more than 10 rounds.
And don’t forget a portion of gun and ammo Sales goes towards Pittman Robertson which then makes it way down to conservation so it’s hard to #Conservation when your anti gun.

1. The timing matters for this discussion because I was not debating in general, but was replying to this quote by another poster: "he literally just came out and said this is exactly what he is going to do."
2. As for why the Senate composition is relevant to this threat, according to schoolhouse rock (only a rube would use facebook for legal knowledge), the Senate must pass a bill for it to become law.
3. And while we all seem to love the executive order when "our guy" is in the white house, EO's won't be sufficient to ban ARs no matter what SNL thinks.
