Great article in E&E Daily today about the current wolf delisting efforts in Congress.

http://www.eenews.net/stories/1060015735

If NWF votes to support, it helps a lot with moderate senators and congressmen in support. This is how an affiliate organization should work - from the ground up.

The bill mirrors the Simpson-Tester delisting rider that restored wolf management to MY & ID in 2011. Here's the draft: http://www.eenews.net/bills/114/House/250315013041.pdf

While I still believe that WY's original plan would be better overall, I'm tired of arguing about it, tired of the lawsuits and tired of the erosion of support of the Endangered Species Act. It's going to be up the the GL states and WY to manage appropriately, which I think they will do. If they don't then wolves get relisted.

That I just skimmed the article, I think it's a good step forward. I also agree with your last few statements. It's sad that the proper fix has to be through legislation IMO. The system can work...

Now, who's drafting a similar bill for GSG? ;)

Everyone who matters is working to keep them off the list the old fashioned way, by conserving them. ;)

I'm 100% over the wolf issue...don't really care what happens in Wyoming anymore.

Delist, keep them listed, season, no-season, predator, big-game, tag, no tag...

Success or not the "old fashioned way" there will be lots of time and money spent on lawsuits.

I used to matter... :(

You matter to me. :)

Yes, industry is already getting their lawyers going by suing the service over the science used. That one will end poorly for them. The left wing will sue the service for anything less than a full listing and the reasonable people in the room will continue to work on state plans that are meaningful and will help ensure the future of the bird and our western way of life.

Meanwhile, Utah will send Benson another state welfare check to push delay and let the bird die off.

Have you ever looked at the Utah state and local plans??

The second link was published in 2006, but the very earliest start on that plan was in 2001. I went to the first field day as a grad student after seeing the flier in a local gas station.

Tyler, I'm not criticizing the Utah management plans, I'm criticizing their decision to fund a charlatan lawyer to push an effort that guts a bedrock conservation law.

If a listing is deemed worthy, then it should happen. We've known for a long time populations were trending downward and expedited drilling was more important than conservation. Now that we're on the cusp of a listing, people are pushing delay. I'm not inclined to reward poor behavior, are you?

Depends on who's doing the behaving... ;)

I took your statement about Utah pushing for a delay and the birds dying off that you didn't feel they were being proactive and just being Utarded.

No, just their political malpractice. :)
