I was shocked at the pricing BassPro is running currently on the Glenfield Model A's.........$299......seems quite attractive.....thoughts?

I didn't know Glenfield was back from the dead. Had to check it out. Those rifles are clearly Gen 1 Ruger Americans. Serviceable rifles but possibly still have the same trigger, feeding issues, and Tupperware stock problems.

The Hornady guys did a "build-up" on one of these on their podcast series; I think they called it their budget build series. Like, a lot of cheaper rifles: if the only thing you keep is the barreled action, and you replace the stock and trigger and put on good glass, they will shoot.
My wife's 243 Rugar Gen 1 shoots as is. Stock isn't ideal but works. Never had feeding issues and trigger is ok after I adjusted it.
If you want something with nicer fit and finish or better craftsmanship then you'll need to spend more. For just a inexpensive budget rifle they work fine.

My gen 1's have killed a lot of meat. Not a single complaint. I did add Boyds stocks and Leupold vx3's. 1-1/2 coils trimmed off the trigger spring will get them down to 2-1/2# ,,,,, zero cost

I just checked the website the price was $429.00 . Still a decent price.

Well...I succumbed to the price and of course the Ruger american reputation. I've been a solo 45-70 hunter....this should add flavor and distance. 270 win...20"...fire-breathing! Picked up 5 different lead free offerings...almost cost as much as the rifle.
