Was just wondering what you guys thought about taking your young children into the woods. What is the right age to start taking them with you? I have a little girl who turns 1 next month but i really want to start taking her with me on scouting trips and just day hikes, have any of you done this with one that is that young or have you waited for them to get a bit older. thanks for you input.....:D

Get a backpack kid carrier and hit the woods. She'll be asleep in no time. All my kids have been in the woods before they could walk.

Have fun!

Took my oldest out before she could walk in the backpack. Though when the twins came my wife and I couldn't venture far. Here is a pic of my oldest scouting she's almost 2 in the pic.

If you don't have a backpack carrier I would try to pick one up. Also I wouldn't plan on being to serious and make sure to keep her or him interested. Here is another pic on what was supposed to be a deer hunt. We went fishing instead because thats what she wanted to do when she saw the river.

I remember taking my 1 yr old daughter out trapping with me one year.I had a backpack for her and would take it off to make my sets and give her something to play with. She's 14 now,but still remember those days.Get a good pack and bring her along with you. She'll like just being with her Dad,just make sure the weather is decent or a 1 yr old can get pretty cranky.I just took my 4 year old out on a 2 mile hike looking over some beaver spots to set.Couldn't believe he made it all the way on his own,and we had a blast;4 yr old with water and mud around. He'll be going on his 1st turkey hunt with me this spring.Because I took him out at an early age, he's real good in the woods. He wispers when he wants to talk to me,watches the noise he makes walking and knows what deer sign looks like. He's going to be a real killer when he gets older, and put me to shame
I say start taking her out and just going on short trips at first.Go to where you WILL see something and she'll see how excited you get,and get excited as well.Good luck and have fun spending time together

ITS NEVER TOO EARLY!!!! Threw our two month old daughter in the pack and took off chasing Montana Wapiti this fall. And I think she was the good luck charm!

My young boys just can't get enough of being in the woods.
