Gallatin Sewer Spillage

http://montanafreepress.org/2016/03...ewater-pouring-into-gallatin-river-tributary/

Doesn't seem like its that bad. Treated water being released, which is eroding stream banks and picking up sediment along the way. Probably better that it happened now, and not after freshet. The sediment will be washed down stream come spring.

I surely hope they are held accountable. If this was an industrial spill, they'd hang em then go after their family.

Here's a video of Ousel falls: http://egpbf2onsg13r7r1nlsepcch.wpe...tent/uploads/2016/03/Ousel_effluent_video.mov

If there is good news, the 35 million gallon number doesn't seem right. By my math that amount of water is the entire flow of the mainstem Gallatin (280 cfs) running for 4.7 hours. It would be a massive Tshitnami ;) on the little West Gallatin.

1 cfs = 646,000(roughly) gallons per day (24 hours)

35,000,000/646,000 = 54 cfs(roughly) for 24 hours would make 35 million gallons

54 cfs is roughly 20 % the Gallatin's flow.

I don't know if that would necessarily be a Tsunami, but the fact that the article says the leak began Thursday afternoon and would be contained sometime Friday makes the 35 million gallon claim seem plausible. I'm admittedly not good at math though, maybe I'm missing something?

I dunno, something don't smell right ;). They were saying the leak was reported ~2pm yesterday and by 10pm last night the Chronicle was reporting the 35 Million gallon number. So figure 8 hours, which would put it at 162cfs running down Yellow Mule Creek. The flow at Gateway didn't show any huge spikes. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mt/nwis/uv/?site_no=06043500&PARAmeter_cd=00060,00065,00010
