I’m not sure if this has been posted already, but there are proposals to further restrict NR caribou hunting in NW Alaska.
It’s sadly another example of total ignorance of the science. The article states NR hunters kill about 250 caribou bulls per year, while resident and/or subsistence hunters kill up to 15,000 caribou annually, many of them cows and calves.

Bummer - this was a hunt I was hoping to do someday. Better start saving, will run out of time by the looks of things.

I know Skip, I know the circumstances around his legal battle. I also have knowledge of tribal hunting rights. I am slightly offended by your comment, however, I respect your right to sling innuendo.
I know it is Chip. Stupid spell correct makes me look even stupider than I am.

Where did all the Caribou go?!?!?

Gee. I wonder. lol

A caribou per week, wow.

Seth Kantner has talked about how many caribou were necessary when everyone used dog teams instead of snowmachines-his dad needed 100 plus caribou per year to keep his team fed. That's one family.

250 bulls for non-resident hunters seems too low to be accurate, but I am not knowledgeable enough to say.
