Alright, what's everyone's thoughts on the fur market for the 26-27 season? We know we won't get rich; do you think we'll get gas money?

Personally, I feel like things are getting a little better. I've told myself I'm going to hit coons hard, although ours here are never worth much in quality. Plenty of red fox around, so I should be able to do well with them. I saw a covey of quail yesterday for the first time in awhile so I feel my trapping efforts are paying off even if the fur check isn't much.

I’d start with the last sale in June to start your fur price estimates.

In my area, bobcats and marten should be good. We trap beaver for bait. Mink looks good too.
I mostly go after red fox. I can handle those prices. I haven't targeted otter in years, but I actually received a call yesterday about otter trapping a pond for a landowner concerned about his fish.

I feel mink and muskrats will be good sellers. But I also feel coons will move so that is a plus, might not be $30 coons but the buyers being able to sell them should boost prices a bit. Hoping to hit it for 3-4 weeks pretty hard when the boy is home from college. We are going to focus on putting fur up this year but I also would like to break 100 coons this year

No clue what the prices will be like but the podcast rinella did with Guy Gruenwald about fur markets last year was very interesting.

It was a good inside look in a way. I've sold to Groenewold for years, so it was neat to hear from them.

They used to do weekly routes through here but with the fur prices and less trappers it’s less now.
We used to have 2 buyers within 20 minutes of where I grew up when i was a kid. I wouldn't even know where to take them now. I think they do a 1x annual pickup somewhere around our area.

Slapped this together out of scrap except for the 2x2’s. I call it the board buggy. I am trying to be more organized and I really want to put up my fur this year.
I really like that idea. I need to get everything a bit more organized before the season; heck, I still need to go over my traps and dye and wax.

Same. There used to be a guy in prairie, his name was Lefty Steiner. He had an old building covered in traps and antlers called the Alaskan Fur exchange. The building is still there and still has some stuff on it. For some reason I want to think it had a dirt floor. Lefty would be in the back by a big barrel stove fleshing skins. All of the fur would be hanging from the ceiling on stretched and he’d ask you what you had while counting out cash from the biggest wad of cash a kid could ever imagine.
