...wind and rain! My future BIL and I headed over to SE Wyoming to chase some pronghorn in circles with other yahoo's in pickup trucks. The HMA we had buck tags for was a bit shy of both bucks and quality, but we did get a couple and had a good time chasing them. Across the way, we also both collected two does a piece, so it was a lot of fun in 2.5 days of hunting.

Here's my future BIL with his first pronghorn.

Here he is again with his first buck! Not a monster, but was aged at 4+ years old by F&G...who did relate to use that this was a bad horn growth year for the area. We were driving down the road when we spotted a herd slowing feeding our way from about 1/5 mile out. We didn't stop, just drove past and got behind a hill and bailed out to take a peak to see if the herd continued our way. During the duck walk/crawl to the crest of the hill, FBIL got a leg cramp so we stopped for a bit while still not knowing where the herd was. Once he got better and we peeked over the hill the herd was about 220yds in front of us, but feeding way. I spotted the buck and called out which one he was and the distance. One shot and he was down and one more to finsih him! BTW, the .277 150gr Core-Lokt works quite well...

The 210gr Partition still works. ;) If you keep it off of bone it's not to destructive, if you don't...it can get messy. We climbed a hill the second day to try to get away from some of the truck traffic. Once near the top, two bucks spotted us and started moving toward us! When the closed to about 80yds I had a clear head on shot at the one buck, but my FBIL had no opportunity. The bucks were starting to act a bit nervous so I quickly asked if I should shoot and said 'Yep!'. The buck I shot caught the bullet next to his left femur after getting shot in the right shoulder. Needless to say there was lots o' damage inside the critter.

looks like a great trip, lots of shooting! Six animals in just over 2 days......sounds like a pheasant hunt!

Thanks for sharing the story and pics!

Looks like you guys did well...congrats.

Wish I would have been around to at least have a cocktail...maybe next year.

Thanks for the kudos!

Buzz- I think he's hooked and is already bugging my sister about coming out again next year. I'll give you a ring...

Good job Pointer. Good idea to check out the FBIL and see what your sis is getting into. Glad you had a great time and sure got some good eats.

Congrats Tyler! Did you shoot any p-dogs or coyotes while you were out and about?
Nope. We were hunting on Hunter Management Area's, which makes all other critters except for the one you have a tag + permit for off limits. But now that my big game hunting is over for the year, I'm planning on chasing some varmints...

Looks like a good time was had by all. Congrats on the lopes and way to get those midwesterners out hunting goats.

It was a good trip, I just wish it wasn't the last one for big game in '08... Guess I'll just have to chase more birds and varmints!

You can tag along with me for CO deer and elk in November, if you have time. Bring a big pack...

Thanks for the offer! I may have to pass for this year though, 2008 hasn't been good to my family's health, so I may need to bank some time to take care of them and/or attend funerals. My dad had his gall bladder removed in February and got a blood infection that had him in the hospital for 25 days. While performing that surgery the Dr's noticed his pancreas was overly large. Later diagnosis showed that it was cancer, so they removed it and a portion of his small intestine. Even with that surgery and the following chemo the cancer has spread to his liver. The to top it off, his father had a heart attack two weeks ago and his mother a stroke 10 days ago. Couple that with an accounting 'mistake' by our former accountant that invoked the wrath of the IRS and the corresponding fees money is shorter than want to... Needless to say it's not been a good year.

However, I do appreciate the invite and if something happens that will allow me to join you I may take you up on the offer!
