Just found this site and I like what I see.
A little bit about myself; I'm nearly 50 and I've been hunting since I was 10. Nobody in my family hunted so I was self taught
I began taxidermy at age 12 after buying a book on the subject and that's all I've ever done ( except for being a beach bum in Hawaii for a few years in my early 20's)
Grew up in Northern CA but after I married a Mexican I moved down to the border so that she could be close to her family ( if mom's happy, everyone's happy) 25th anniversary this year.
The desert has been good to me in many ways, but especially for my buggered knee that doesn't like the cold. I can play in the cold, just can't live in it.
Being a full-time taxidermist, it's hard for me to close shop for a week during peak hunting seasons. For this reason I do most of my long hunts in Hawaii and NZ where hunting is year-round and I can close shop for 2, 3, or 4 weeks during the summer months and not have to think about work. I do apply for western states biggame hunts, but mostly for just the very best hunts. If I'm going to close shop in the fall it's gotta be for an awesome tag.
I mostly hunt AZ being that it's my neighbor. I've got 15 bonus points for deer and you can guess what unit I apply for.
My hunting partners have been my family; wife, daughter and son. My kids have hunted with me since they were in diapers. Hunting javelina in AZ was a family tradition, but alas, my kids have grown up and their jobs don't allow them much time right now. My daughter works 6 days a week and my son is "hunting" in Afghanistan.
So.... I'm reconnecting with old buddies and making new ones.
Except for where required by law, I don't hunt using guides. I'm not afraid to venture into the unknown and go DIY You can check out my other post'
I'm not opposed to a beer or two after a hunt but I don't like drunks, especially on a hunt.
My ears aren't virgins but they are not garbage cans either.
I hunt with any legal weapon, but I prefer archery.
Cheers,
Breck
