Frank Church Wilderness to allow chain saws......

I have seen plenty of evidence of chainsaws used for fire fighting well within the ABW. I am curious why this hasn't lead to motorcycles and whatnot.
...yet.

I do understand that chainsaws and bike are not the same, and that given the reality of the situation chainsaws would be really useful. Maybe even truly needed.

I just think there are better options. Like funding trail crews.

I agree that funding trail crews is a better option, if that is an option. I am just playing devil's advocate.

The slippery slope shit just rings in my ears like the NRA.

Agreed. I know of a number of loads of hay that arrived at guard stations in the Bob via helicopter sling during fire exemptions.

Interesting article and how one of the people said that crosscut are as fast as a chainsaw. Even if that is so, in the hands of an expert, I'm guessing the barrier for entry is far lower with a chainsaw, as it's something most outdoorsmen have and know how to use at some proficiency level.

Article also mentioned access, but do any of our experts know how "Access" is worded and integrated into the Wilderness Act?

we have two seasonals starting tomorrow. Their duties will be mowing, trail clearing, grounds duties. If they can start a stihl chainsaw on day 1 I will be amazed, let alone sharpen, change the chain when needed and operate.

Don’t even get me started on backing a trailer.
