Forum improvement

Oh I get it , I see the reason not to post units . I have gotten help in DM's , I was just pointing out the limitations of actual topics we have available .
I'm not upset , just giving my two cents , for what its worth .

I don't think this decision is about spot jacking/asking so much as it is about some of the policy forums that have gotten out of hand.

One person will make a popular point, and then perhaps someone else steps on and provides a counterpoint. If that counterpoint isn't as popular or challenges initial assumptions, the gut reaction is to say something pithy and mean, or to let someone else say something pithy and mean and then pile on with the likes. There's this strange "yeah, I got you!" mentality that goes with taking someone else's views and reducing them to an ad hominem attack.

People don't like to be wrong or worse, called out for being wrong. If there is a tribe behind them that doesn't want to do the intellectual work and is willing to just pile on, it drives away differing opinions and viewpoints. Why try to change minds or provide different perspective if the reaction is just going to be getting trolled by those that think it's funny and cute?

I applaud this move. It equalizes the voices, and hopefully will lead to more fruitful conversation with more people willing to speak now that they don't have to concern themselves with tribalistic pushback. This community deserves a wider pool to learn from.

this is only a problem for like 5.5 people on the forum. yeah, it is certainly an outsized distraction.

but, fixing it has nothing to do with a like button.

Well time will tell , I guess . But I have never witnessed anybody having their opinion changed by conversing about a topic on any forum .Or very rarely , I should say .
I refrain from getting into those posts , I have no desire to argue about anything on the internet .
But I do enjoy reading them and I give posts I agree with a "like" rather than trying to say the same thing a different way .
As far as not liking being wrong , well thats true for most people , but not me . I have no problem being wrong and will admit it when its been pointed out .
And as far as having fruitful conversations ? On the internet ? Come on man , LOL 😎
Again , I'm not upset , just disagree with it making the forum better.

Quite the dilemma. Guys like @Frequently Banned Troll are way more popular, funnier and have far better grip and grins than I. They bring the views. So when he calls @Elky Welky a QSB, he gets a pass. If I posted that, I would get steel-toed to the curb by the big guy. Since I completely agree with FBT's assessment, I just clicked "Like". Without the "Like" button how is the world going to know my opinion of EW? And yes, the world does need to know.

Found it. Was a solid enough thread and conversation that I remembered it and it is something I have occasionally looked at. There is a lot of truth behind that ratio to the type of member that person is. Those that had those high reaction ratios were the type of people that post high quality content often hunt story related or when they chime in a thread usually get a bunch of people that toss them a like.
