Elk .... Let's see them!!!

Just got back from my wife's AZ limited opportunity elk hunt. She had an any elk tag and was able to get this one on the last day! This is her second elk, and first bull!

Already posted this in another thread, but here's my son's opening morning elk from this year. Right here in the back yard, a "typical" Bridger bull.
Although actually it was more up by Amnesia Lake, I think!

My 24th elk in 27 years of hunting the White River National Forest

On the 8th day of 2nd season, hard work, perseverance and dumb luck paid off. With another 6 inches of snow at 10,000 ft., migrating elk began to move through. After some tracking and a lengthy stalk, I got a brief, 3 second opportunity. The shot was at 59 yards with a 200 grain Nosler Partition handload. My trusty rifle, a 1937 Winchester model 54 in .30-06, with a 4x Leupold Alaskan scope.

This was my 24th elk in 27 years of solo hunting an area just outside the Flat Tops Wilderness.

Will post a story with more details of the 2012 hunt when I finish with the meat cutting.
