Its been years since I have had a chance to use my Dutch ovens. I finally used them in camp last weekend to bake a 3-loaf batch of bread. It turned out pretty good, considering my lack of practice.

Do any of you bake yeast breads in Dutch ovens?

Paul,

I've done some sourdough bread in a Dutch Oven a couple of times. Sourdough biscuits are a camping staple.

I like your stack method with the briquettes. How long did you bake it for?

Here's an easy one. I posted it ...Uuummm.... maybe a decade ago. But, still a good one.

~12 oz can of room temp beer.
~3 cups self rising flour
~(ya can actually stop here, but) 1/4 cup sugar

Mix, Bake. DONE !

Add what you want from this point. Hey, It works !!

JLS, I think the smaller loaf on the top was about 30 minutes. There were 2 thicker loaves in the bottom oven and those went about 45 minutes. I used to have a good sourdough starter a friend gave me, but haven't had time available for it for years. I ended up drying and freezing some of the starter. I still have it, in hope of regenerating it when I have more time to use it.

Gunner46, I'll have to try that one some time. Thanks for sharing.
