Conservation or Big Beautiful Ballrooms?

How about the next round...monuments . Maybe I'm naive, but monuments are not usually promoted by the person themselves.
Did Lincoln build the Lincoln Memorial for himself?
In the meantime, I can't stand the idea of a National Park pass with the picture of DJT, nor do I want a passport with that clown on it.

We, the world?! The US and Israel attacked Iran to prevent possible attacks on them and allies in the region. Canada, like many countries, have assets in the region, furthermore, Canada would most definitely fall within the danger radius of nuclear fall-outs (not that I believe there was any actual danger, but I digress). There's a whole world out there, RJ.

The ballroom was to be paid for privately and be Trump's "gift" (well,...donors paid but whatevs, slap a gold-leaf name on the ballroom and Arc de Whatevs and some plane and a caberet hall, go for it) to America and Liberace's ghost with all the gold leaf never gathered in one spot previously except for Liberace's bedroom in Vegas and Saddam's house in the desert.

He tore down the East Wing without approval nor budget. Oops, did I do thaaaat? Well, give me money to fix this eyesore. Give me, give me, give me...or I will investigate you! I like to be petty and nothing like a petty old guy who needs to stay close to a restroom.

That said, I will approve $2 billion for the glam ballroom because everyone knows this will go over budget. The catch is, no funds can be released until 10 years after the 25th person is convicted for criminal activity related to the fully-released, without redaction, Epstein files and related files from all investigations including the State of Florida.

Never accuse me of not enjoying both a fancy ballroom and seeing perverts locked up. Let's roll with the perv walk into courts near and far.

You are on the clock, Mr. President. But not on certified weight scales. Most only handle up to 300 pounds before red line.

Also, your idea of a cease fire and pause of a war are not what you think they are. Take the L. You are wrecking the economy and the budgets of millions of hard-working families.

Donald likes to go big. He is wrecking the budgets of billions, if you count all that are affected by his harebrained excursion.

Always trying to be the devils advocate. I want funding for public land management but….i think there is some fluff that could be trimmed. 3 miles from my house the Usfws is building a $15 million shop/office complex for 4 full time employees, 2 of which don’t report to the office everyday and 1 is retiring in a few months and won’t be replaced and it’s only open to the public when staff or volunteers are available. 3 miles away the national park service is completing a $3 million renovation on an existing visitor center. There’s no way to work together?

Where is the building?

Where is the building?
They originally estimated for 10 million and they proposed paving the road for an additional couple million that sees less than 30 cars a week according to tge county engineer. The estimates came back way over. So they axed the public interactive displays and the road paving and reopened the bidding to allow local contractors. It still came back over budget. There’s also a less then 5 year old usfws interpretive center and hatchery in the same district of the refuge only about 30 minutes away. They also have a nice office building that was built in the 90s that has been condemned due to mold due to lack of maintenance.

Upper Mississippi fish and wildlife refuge, McGregor district and Effigy mounds national monument.
Found it on a search. Doesn’t seem an unreasonable project when I read it, particularly given the maintenance that many of these places need. I think saying it is for 4 people is an attempt to paint it as something it isn’t. It’s mostly for storage and a general area for education And it was approved under GAOA so hard to attribute as “fluff”. I don’t think you can have a visitor center for effigy mounds 3 miles away, but There is a contact for the regional manager. Ask her. It would interesting to see what she says.

Yeah, I’m not surprised it went over budget given when it was approved vs the cost today. I like that the work is going to local contractors. They were also leasing some space that this project would replace and I’m not sure if that savings is included. I still think it is hard to call this fluff. There are things that might not make clear sense in government but I see the same thing in private industry. Overall I hope they use that space to educate kids on the value of the ecosystem so they learn to value it. Otherwise they will only see value in draining it for farmland.

And Democrats are viewed as talking down to the average American? Stupid stuff like this shows how smart Republicans think their voters are. And I bet it changes zero votes.
Do you feel unburdened by what has been having said that?

Republican voters arent any dumber than democrat ones. Theres a long list of bad ideas/BS that has been sold to plenty of idiots on the left too. Theyre all the same to a morally corrupt political operator (includes well beyond just elected officials) - useful.

Agree. Also agree that there are plenty of bad ideas on both sides. As I have said, on average they are all "blissfully unaware". I commented because of Bigfin's post that a lot of Montana voters think that Dems talk down to them (my words, not his, which I have heard) and think they are dumb for why voting against things they care about (they do). I think Dems try to explain too much. You can't explain to someone how they are getting robbed until they reach for the wallet and it is gone. What they should have been doing is promising voters checks. Americans love $$$. If you can't see the difference between parties it is because you choose not to. The ballroom bait and switch is just the tip of iceberg. I can't help you other than to say buy an umbrella because that isn't rain.

And my point was you still have a primary to choose better candidates. It isn't R v D, it is extreme v moderate, on both sides. As I look at results across the country, Rs are doubling down on crazy. No one is changing their vote based on facts, remaining blissfully unaware regarding most of what is going on. Without checks and balances of difference parties, kiss your public lands goodbye. It's just a matter of time.

I just grok'ed this, and it looks like this money is strictly for security upgrades for SS and hardening the target following the third assassination attempt, and cannot be spent on anything else. A lifelong friend of mine in the Special Ops community outlined how 5 or 6 guys could have carried out an End of Governance operation; the entire leadership structure of our country suddenly gone. I guess I don't think a billion is all that much to prevent that.
