Catch All Fishing Thread

Slow morning on the Texas coast, but eventually found a few hungry, or at least angry speckled trout. After grinding for about 2 hours I switched to a larger spook and caught a skinny 19"-er. A few minutes later found some more trout, but It took about 5 casts to get the 2nd fish. It looked like at least 3 trout were jumping all over my topwater plug without getting hooked up. I mean the water was boiling, very fun, but frustrating. Finally got a hookup and landed a 20" fish. Then the next cast another one missed it, and the frenzy was over. Such pretty fish before they loose there color.

Short three day to Sitka. Wife's BFF had rotator cuff surgery 10 days ago and couldn't hold a rod and reel. Set her up with an electric reel to land 130 pound Halibut. Emergency order closed King fishing but there were enough silvers to keep it interesting. We caught limits of halibut, Sable fish, Yellow Eye, a dozen pinks, couple of chums, two sockeye odds and ends of rock fish and a best guess of 17 Kings we had to release.
Weather was awful, long ocean swells up to 8 feet.
Curious what size boat you need to deal with 8 ft swells?

Wow, those are really neat looking fish! How do they taste?

Not trying to be a wise guy, but the treble on that plug may be part of the issue with your hookup frustrations- looks like that thing has been at war with the salt for a while!

They are great eating fish, white & flakey, great flavor. I like them better than walleye, blasphemy I know 😄

They are also probably my favorite fish to catch when they are hitting topwater.

Yeah that lure needs some new hooks! I was searching my box for a larger lure just to try something different, and that was an old warrior for sure. I'll change the hooks when I get back from vacation.

But sometimes even with new sharp hooks you can have a hard time with topwater hookups. They often seem like they're not trying to eat it, they just whack it around (angry vs hungry?). The one I finally caught was hooked in the side of the head.

For sure, same with smallmouth in clear water. I think sometimes they smack it with their mouth closed just to send it.
Smallmouth bass is one fish that comes close to speckled trout in temperament, fun to catch!

A guy I work with told me his Son was catching pike in a river near us and just throwing them on the bank. He had no idea they were really good to eat. mtmuley

It is sad Shark. The pike need out of the river. Blue ribbon river. Gotta keep the river pimps in business. Anyway, the pike don't belong. It is sad these guys aren't eating them. mtmuley

I think a lot people get scared off of pike because of the y bones, but they aren’t that hard to filet in a way that removes them. Put them on their belly, cut the back strap off and then zip the y bones out of the side.

That or pickle them, that takes care of them too. Smaller pike are my favorite pickled fish.

Yep. Do you think pike in the Bitterroot River is a good thing? mtmuley
On the fence.
No i dont think it is a good thing.
But I'm not convinced they will have impact as detrimental as rising water temps and irrigation impacting stream flow.
No matter anyone's opinion, pike wont be eradicated and are here to stay.
