Catch All Fishing Thread

Don't like the weather, just wait a bit...but don't wait too long or the wind will pick back up.

I knocked the dust off the riggers and trolling gear for a quick after work trip before the winds get nuts again. I've forgotten how much I love those spring kings in cold water. Fog was thick for first few hours, then wind switched and cleared things up, then it was pea soup in the dark back to the pierheads. Good times.

Nice Kings @Steelsearchin.

That rainbow spoon is huge compared to what we usually pull, is that the typical size you use all year?

I won't speak for @Steelsearchin but that looks like a Mag size warrior. I'm typically running half the spread or more at Mag size if the kings are in. The fish I caught Monday were spitting up 4 and 5 inch alewives. Match the hatch and whatnot.

Just a standard MI Stinger Stingray (center), but we caught fish on mags too (bottom).

Top spoon is a Jr silver streak and I'll run those earlier in the year for browns and coho.

That shows scale a lot better, for some reason it looked gigantic in the fish pic, maybe because of how the spoon was extended straight out.

Mainly spoons for you guys or flasher/fly, meat rigs etc?

Yeah that pic does make it look weird. Yesterday was all spoons. Pulled two flasher flies all night with no rips. Haven't heard any action on meat rigs yet so left that stuff at home, but we do run them at times.

Great trip yesterday with a friend, 10 walleye and 21 white bass. And crazy event near the end of trip will be remembered. While reeling in a white bass a HUGE largemouth bass came up and tried to inhale it right by the boat! He chased it around the front of the boat and actually got it almost halfway in his mouth tail first. I'm guessing it was in the 8 pound range. I've had bass try to steal a lure from another fish, and sometimes get hooked, but this was a new one for me.

What state are you fishing in? Great day of fishing. Ive had northerns do the same thing.

Starting to get a little better on the stretch of the river I usually fish- some nicer fish mixed in with a lot of small ones.

Mayfly hatch is in full tilt. Spinners burned up near the surface for the next week or so.

So when I was at my Louisiana camp last week I was able to get one of my boats past the clutter in my garage 😃, and make a fishing trip down to Calcasieu. Had a great trip with 10 keeper speckled trout from 14-24". The bigger ones hit a jerk bait and the rest a small jig while fishing under birds. There was some topwater action early but never got one hooked up despite multiple blowups. The 24" fish put up an awesome fight with numerous jumps and even a extended tail walking moment with gills flared. Also had about 10 undersized fish. Trout limit in Louisiana is a generous 15 with 13" minimum.

My wife dropped me off at the lake to fish for the afternoon. After nightfall a bear started harassing me, so I went up to the main road to try and hitchhike out off there - no cell reception, but the first vehicle to come by was my wife 😂😂

Spinners and spoons, landed one more after dark.

Nice! In Texas, our limit after the last “big” freeze got dropped to 3 n 15”-20” only…not even worth running to the Land Cut any more

Yeah, I think Texas overreacted to the freeze event. I'll be in Galveston next month for a week and would still be happy if I could catch 3 trout a day, some years I get skunked.

We did ok last weekend at the Packery Channel Jetty in Corpus Christi. The Beach to Bay Marathon was on so it was packed n many roads were closed so we couldn’t get where we wanted to go until late n the shrimp at the bait stands were minuscule. Turned up 3 reds, 1 black drum, 1 trout, some Spanish Macks, n nice sized bluefish (for there) in 2 evenings. Shrimp worked if it lasted long enough before bait fish tore them up. Spanish n blues were hitting a casting spoon. Should’ve focused more on catching mullet for bait than using the shrimp or went strictly artificial.
Good luck
