Sign title to kid.My 19 yo daughters premium is $289 per month (~$3500 per year) (liability only) after good student discount on a 2007 Toyota Camry. She did just win a full tuition and fees scholarship at the 4 year school she will be transferring to next fall, so I think I'll let it slide a couple years.
But I would like some feedback from folks on when they did transition the kids off onto their own car insurance policy...and what their phase in was.
Kid already has title.Sign title to kid.
They get their own insurance and register it on their own.
Would that make anything cheaper?Sign title to kid.

The person I quoted said their kid was 19I didn't think a kid can get insurance by themselves until they were 18????
Tbe person asked about transitioning their kid off of their insurance. (Presumably after college)Would that make anything cheaper?
Not my experience. Mine still looks to assign the most expensive person to the cheapest to insure car.In the old days you could designate a piece of junk car to the kid and only insure them for that car but seems like more insurance companies won't let you do that anymore. Kid is insured to drive the $70k diesel truck, not just the $5k POS that they actually drive.
Adding our son added over $3k a year, closer to $4k.
