This trial doesn't completely involve hunting but they directly violated law on public land grazing allotments which impacts wildlife management on public lands. The family lead the Malhuer Refuge takeover.

For starters, Bundy was running his cows on public land without paying the grazing fees, and doing so well in excess to the amount of cattle allowed. In general he and his followers directly disavow the federal governments authority to own/manage lands, specifically in Nevada, but also throughout the west.
