Got back from last weeks scouting venture and finally had time to download the card from one of my gamecams. This was on the most promising trail where I have a treestand- the vegetation might look green (its at a seap/spring) by it's dryas hell everywhere else.

Nothing huge but for Cali blacktails they will fill my first tag hopefully on Saturday.

Couple of forkys (not sure if two aren't the same buck)

The little 3x3 I hope to hang tag #1 on :)

I was pleasantly surprised with the cheapo game cam pics- had a total of 157 pics over three weeks...lots of does...fawns...small bucks...ground rats...and branches blowing in the wind  But hey for $48 I'm not complaining!

Nice looking pics Marv. I used to hunt the Mendocino National forest out of Upper lake so know how hard it is to hunt them blackie's. In my book they are one of the hardest deer to hunt. Good luck this season with them.

Thanks Ken....supposed to warm back up in the trip digits- go figure!

Ridge- Lots of big bucks come out of that forest...unfortunately lots of big buds being grown there as well...don't call it part of the Emerald Triangle for nothing!

Those bucks seem to be showing up like clockwork and that 3X3 looks made to order. Good luck with your setup -looks to me like it can't fail. Of course -when hunting blacktails, anything can or can't happen. lol
I'm very impressed with the funtionality of your low-cost little cam. Would you mind giving them a plug by letting us know who makes it, if you don't mind?
(PS, heading up to the property at 3am Sat morning. Do you know of any good fishing holes near Canby? Besides that we may hit Rodney F's streams.) Thx, Dave

Dave I actually don't fish that end much.....you might ask heelerdog if he has any decent spots down that way. The game cams are by Wildview. They are on ebay and even WMart carries them. Pretty low pixel counts but they do have a flash, can be set for 1-5-10min intervals, and take an SD card in addition to their on-board memory. I bought a couple to play with (again $48 each) in areas that I don't get to often. The 4 C batts have been lasting nearly a month which isn't too bad.

I had a lot of nightime pics but the flash is fairly limited and mainly were "eyeball" pics. The one thing I wish it did have is a time stamp to get a pattern going but.......I don't know if I've ever patterend blacktails much anyway, they're pretty "random"

Yep, "Random" is their FIRST name. LOL! Of course, there're all settled down and aren't getting territorial quite yet. They'll only let me think I've got them figured out and then hitchike to the next county. No wonder I've gone nuts. Ha! Still, I think your setup by that spring is nearly perfect.

Right on Marv!! I am leaving town in about 2 hours to steak my spot under the apple tree!! :) Best of luck to you and all the other CA hunters heading out tomorrow!!
