Flu induce fog got me thinking-sorry. I pretty much live and breath all things outside-especially hunting and fishing. For honesty's sake I am also a government employee, often times not too happy with the juggernaut myself. That being said, I was an outdoorsman before I ever had a job and will be one long after-powers willing. Being an outdoorsman is why I took the career path I did. Thus I will get to my point. My politics pretty are based on what I care about most (believe it or not-it ain't my job)-like most. I'm not enamored with either of our two parties, so I vote for who scares me less. I end up voting against the GOP party mainly because I fear what they will do do my lifestyle more than what the Dems will. I'm way less afraid of higher taxes and big brother than I am of the thought of a single piece of legislation that will hamper my ability to fish my [public] streams. I really don't think either party is truthfully willing to fix the "big mess", so I simplistically vote against the party that seems to want to also make a mess of what I care about. But hey I'm also 50, have lived a lot of great things, and am pretty simplistic when it comes to whats important to me. I see a picture of a little kid with a cow elk, and I want that kid to be able to do that when she's my age. If she can, I figure her life must be pretty good. Generate some "fireside" discussion?? If not........

In my neck of the woods, east coast, the Dems are the ones that scare the crap out of me.I DO care about my taxes and my right to have guns.I've been hearing alot of bad reports about the Republicans in your area though so I can't say i blame you.I can't see a day when I'd go vote for a Dem. yet,but I think things are much different in my part of the country

Move to California, Oregon, or even Washington and you won't be singing the same song.

Many MT democrats would be republicans if they lived in a different state. Plus, they're on thin ice here. It ain't easy running for election in a red state when your party is blue.

I've never in my life voted for a candidate, I've always voted against thier opponent, that scares the hell out of me.

I vote for who I think is best for the country. I voted for a GOP president and look what we got; our worst fears realized!

I didn't vote for Obama and my worst fears are still realized...go figure...

Our club called a political forum, right before elections in the fall. We made up certain questions that all had to answer. Some totally refused. Those in the Republican party knew change was coming, and they didn't want to answer anything that would haunt them later. Some of the Republicans were a lot more personable. They stood out over the Dems. Even though, some of the Dems were liberal, and not knowledgeable about hunting, their votes wouldn't have hurt us like the Republicans. If I had it to do over again, I would vote strictly Dem. Never thought I would say that, but there you have it. I'm tired of dealing with these anti sportsman bills.

I always vote for the one who I feel is going to hurt the least when he *puts it to me*. Yes, sad state of affairs, but fact of life and may be a defeatest attitude.
Always comes down to the fact that they will tell us what they think we need to hear to elect them them. Once they are in office they are greasing somebody's skids or getting theirs greased. Worse yet, smoking cigars.

[Elected liberals] have allowed things like this to happen [below].. and we have already lost millions of acres of the U.S. southern border to smugglers/bandito's.. hunting grounds destroyed etc,etc... So stay/get involved in politics...

Chandler beheading tied to Mexican drug cartel
by Laurie Merrill - Mar. 2, 2011 04:53 PM
The Arizona Republic
The man whose decapitated body was found in a Chandler apartment was killed in retaliation for stealing 400 pounds of marijuana from a Mexican drug trafficking organization, a police report reveals.

The Chandler police report also reveals that the victim believed in Santa Muerte, a Mexican saint of death, and had bragged to his companions shortly before his beheading that he had died and come back to life five times and could kill with a look.

The body of Martin Alejandro Cota Monroy, 38, commonly known as "Jando," was found on the living room floor of 300 W. Fairview St. on Oct. 9. His head was found on the floor several feet away.

Half-empty versus Half full

I see many of the mentioned opinions/voting strategies as half empty views. Really, are you voting for a person because they will 'hurt less'? Or are you voting for them because they will help more? I recognize it is simply a way to catagorize a view/symantics but voting for someone who will 'hurt less' seems negative to me and carries with it a defeatist attitude. It allows a person to say, " he wasn't my guy, but I had to vote for somebody", and thus retain a level of unaccountability.
I say let's just call it what it is. I chose the person whom I felt was the best at that time in my life, and I'm accountable for it. I have voted for my share of idiots in my life, but I did it with my eyes wide open.

actually, nikster, after tracking the antics of Montana's GOP party for around a dozen years- voting against them is an eyes wide open affair......like that. And not defeatist at all...it's call informed--knowing ones enemy. these icons are kinda humorous.

In my region of montana the republicans who are elected have always been mostly realtors, developers, or business people who can personally benefit financially by getting into public office and swaying rules such as zoning, growth planning, subdivision regs, etc in their favor. In my entire life in western montana i have yet to see a republican who stands for GOP values without being mostly about business interests for self and their chronies.

I suspect over in eastern montana and in other states where there is still a culture of good moral values there are republicans who govern based on values and not personal business interest. Thats not the case in the BitterFroot though.

Of course we should still give these republicans in the 2011 legislature who are trying to degrade our entire way of life a free-pass. Otherwise a bunch of liberals might get in office and we'll get our heads chopped off by mexican drug runners.

Study up and pick your poison, basically. I get so tired of listening to people in general bitch about it, only to find out they didn't/won't vote during a conversation you are having..

My post was/is non-party-specific. Just a general observation. I also get a kick outta the little icons.

not sure how things are in ID, but I think the website geeks need to come up with some 2011 MT legislative icons... I can think of a few

No, no. Sorry you took it wrong. I was talking about when you are in public or talking to folks you know who bitch and then in the next sentence say they never vote. To a person, most everybody here agrees to disagree and I see very few who *flame out* at somebody's opinion.
