I always look forward to the lopener. Its a much needed change to the physical and mental demands of chasing bulls. This year was no exception. I am no writer so I will just post pictures.

This was the first buck we spotted, my brother in law was not quick enough, and it was getting ready to walk in to the sea of orange. So I decided it was good enough for me.

Yesterday we hiked in to a Roadless area of a state section. There were lope everywhere, I was happy to help my brother in law connect with his first lope.

He forgot his knives so I told him we would just carry it back to the truck. I don't know what's the matter with him here, not sure he could handle the elk woods. lol..

"Lopener" that is awesome. I suspect more animals die in MT on that day than any other, all fall. Especially when you consider it's now the pheasant opener too. Hunters out in full force where I was. We killed a couple bucks and a coyote.

Nicely done! How does one forget a knife? lol Unless legally required to not have one, I always have a pocketknife on me.

Some of my "lopener" highlights..
Putting 1000 miles on the old hunting truck
High dollar filth motel rooms
Finding out half the beer I brought was skunked out
Hearing the details of my better half's run in with a dickhead warden
How does that gas station cashier with 5" finger nails wipe - and what to do with the change she just handed me
Ruining other hunters stalk by driving down a county road while guys were posted up in the barrow pit
Jacked up truck with large hunting window stickers, full of tattooed flat brimmers with pockets full of doe tags
Quoting the guys above, "We've been shootin'm all day long, we're just winding down, trying to get some long range shots in on does, like 1000 plus yards in this wind."
The crackling sound bullets make when whizzing by my truck (while driving it down a road)

The advancements of GPS use nowdays has guys are on every intersection of public land and road. Luckly, the little piece I started out on had antelope that required walking a quarter mile to see. A buck I liked was there during archery, and still there at daylight a month later. And I was glad to make it home alive. It's what I imagine a tour in Vietnam may have been like.

Couple nice bucks, Greenhorn. You too Quak. I was pleasantly surprised at how little pressure there was where I was hunting out there. However, I’m guessing that explains why I wasn’t seeing too much and certainly nothing big...
